Blue Horizons Garden Resort Receives Prestigious Green Globe Certification

GRENADA(March 22, 2010) - Blue Horizons Garden Resort in Grenada (http://www.GrenadaBlueHorizons.com) has secured the coveted Green Globe Certification for its environmentally-friendly initiatives and practices.

"We are extremely pleased that our efforts over the years have earned us such a prestigious award," said Arnold Hopkin, owner/manager of Blue Horizons.

"Of course, the true beneficiary of our initiatives is the environment and we are proud to play a key role in preserving Grenada's best natural assets," added Arnold Hopkin.

Blue Horizons actively promotes the following environmental practices:

· Purification of the main swimming pool by the chemical-free Auto Pilot system, which uses salt as opposed to chlorine. Swimming in salt water of 0.3 - 0.5 percent has positive health effects such as eliminating problems with dry skin, damaged hair and red eyes. Additionally, Blue Horizons enjoys a considerable cost-savings by not having to purchase chlorine.

· Creating a process whereby the resort's laundry system is operated by 100 percent rain water. The resort restored an old water tank (with a capacity of 10,500 gallons) and filled it exclusively with rain water so all the laundry (including staff uniforms, towels, bedding, etc.) would be cleaned in this fashion. This process saves about 500 gallons of water per day. Since there is an absence of minerals in rain water, the introduction of this system significantly reduces chemical usage. Blue Horizons already uses environmentally-friendly cleaning products (most cleaning products are non-toxic and phosphate-free).

· Distribution of reusable shopping bags. Ninety percent of the guests staying at Blue Horizons walk to the nearby supermarket for groceries (since the accommodations at Blue have kitchenettes) so the resort is distributing reusable bags for them to use while shopping. The resort's management is encouraging guests to take these bags when they leave Blue Horizons and use them for grocery shopping back home.

Green Globe is the premier global certification and improvement system assisting the international travel and tourism industry to attain sustainability. Green Globe provides a certification system that responds directly to the major environmental problems facing the planet including the greenhouse effect, over-use of freshwater resources, destruction of biodiversity, production of solid and biological waste, and corporate social issues.
